Frequently Asked Questions
I began my career as a special education teacher, working in both elementary and high school settings. I hold a master’s degree in special education, along with a Disability Law and Advocacy certificate from the USD. While I loved teaching, I felt called to support parents in understanding their rights and navigating the IEP process. After seeing too many families leave meetings without fully understanding what their child was entitled to, I shifted my work to advocacy so I could help ensure every child receives the support they deserve.
That’s exactly when this level of support can be most helpful. My goal is to help build bridges between you and the school team and work toward a mutual understanding, without burning relationships down.
An IEP (Individualized Education Program) provides specialized instruction and services for students who need specially designed teaching to make progress in school. A 504 plan provides accommodations for students who can access the general curriculum but need supports to remove barriers to learning. The key difference is that an IEP includes specialized instruction, while a 504 plan does not.
I provide virtual advocacy services to families across the United States. Because the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that all states must follow, I’m able to support families regardless of location. While most of my clients are currently based in California and Colorado, I’m excited to work with families nationwide.
Most families seek an advocate when they suspect their child may need special education support and want guidance on how to start the process. Others already have an IEP but feel it isn’t being followed or that their child needs more support. If you’re unsure what to ask for or how to advocate effectively, I can help guide you.
Yes, I attend IEP meetings virtually. Since 2020, most meetings have shifted online, making virtual attendance seamless and effective. This also reduces travel time and costs while still providing full advocacy support.
All services (record review, parent coaching, and full-scope advocacy) are billed at an hourly rate, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. Please schedule a consultation for detailed pricing and recommendations.
I prioritize inclusive, student-centered approaches that support children in the least restrictive environment (LRE). This means advocating for the services and supports your child needs to be successful within general education settings whenever appropriate, rather than defaulting to more restrictive placements.
No. This service is also a good fit for families who believe their child may need additional support. I can help you navigate the special education evaluation process and work toward establishing an initial IEP or 504 plan if appropriate.
